Aflatoxin Concerns in Pistachios.

Aflatoxins are naturally occurring toxins produced by certain molds, such as Aspergillus flavus, which can contaminate a variety of crops, including pistachios, posing significant health risks to humans and animals when consumed in high quantities. AquaSEEN demonstrates potential antimicrobial properties and the ability to reduce aflatoxin contamination in various food products.

AquaSEEN’s Efficacy in Eliminating Aflatoxin in Pistachios.

Objective:
This case study was conducted by a Jordanian food manufacturing factory that used pistachios as a component in the factory's products. The main objective of this case study is to evaluate the efficacy of AquaSEEN in disinfecting pistachios and destroying Aflatoxin. For that purpose, a pistachio sample, including an amount of aflatoxin below 25%, was used to be disinfected with AquaSEEN.

Methodology:
Disinfection Methodology:
o AquaSEEN Disinfectant Solution was prepared by adding AquaSEEN Food Grade to the water.
o The pistachios were soaked in AquaSEEN Disinfectant Solution for a night.
o All the surfaces, conveyors, and production lines were disinfected with AquaSEEN to prevent any cross-contamination.

Results:
o The microbial test results showed a high positive outcome, approving AquaSEEN's efficacy in achieving the elimination of Aflatoxin.
o Also, AquaSEEN assisted in extending the shelf life of the pistachio and its based products.

Conclusion:
Through testing and analysis, the results of this case study showed significant advantages for using AquaSEEN, such as:
o AquaSEEN shows its strong antifungal activity against A. flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus.
o AquaSEEN assists in the degradation of Aflatoxins if it is below 25%.
o AquaSEEN reduces the cytotoxicity and genotoxicity effects of Aflatoxin on Pistachios.
o AquaSEEN does not affect the physical properties of pistachios; it does not impact pistachios' taste.
o To ensure comprehensive disinfection of the pistachios and prevent cross-contamination from surfaces and conveyors to the pistachios, AquaSEEN must be used for disinfecting surfaces, conveyors, and production lines.
o This trial confirmed that AquaSEEN is an ideal and cost-effective disinfection method for Pistachios Disinfection and Aflatoxins Elimination.
